National Hate Crime Awareness Week 11th - 18th Oct 2025

National Hate Crime Awareness Week is a time to recognise and reflect on the impact of hate crimes, raise awareness about prejudice and discrimination and empower communities to take a stand against all forms of hate. It’s also an important opportunity to educate young people about respect, empathy and inclusion, helping to prevent harm before it starts.

At Steve Biko Housing Association, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and valued in their community. Hate crime has no place in our neighbourhoods – and we’re committed to taking a stand. That’s why we’re supporting the National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2025 (11th to 18th October).

 What is hate crime?

Hate crime is any criminal offence or incident that is motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person’s:

  • Race or ethnicity

  • Religion or belief

  • Disability

  • Sexual orientation

  • Gender identity

It can take many forms – verbal abuse, threats, vandalism or physical violence – and it affects people deeply.

Together, we can build communities where everyone feels safe and welcome. Hate crime can leave a deep and lasting impact – not just on individuals, but on entire communities. Sadly, we know that many incidents go unreported, meaning some people continue to suffer in silence.

Steve Biko Housing Association is proud to support the national Hate Crime Awareness Week 2025. It’s an important opportunity to raise awareness, challenge prejudice and encourage people to speak out. Tackling hate crime isn’t something we can do alone—it depends on strong partnerships with the police, local authorities, support organisations, and most importantly, our residents

By standing together, we can confront hate more effectively and help build communities where everyone feels safe, respected and included.
